    Hi, welcome to the forum!

A picture always helps. Please post one if you can.

The name and serial number should make the helmet researchable.

    Cheers, Ade.

Sounds like an M1917A-1 U.S. helmet. Below is the research on your man from the National Archives. One number off but the same name, I think this is your boy. Looks like he joined before WWII broke out as a guardsman. This would probably be his pre-war helmet. Great find! Post some pictures when you get a chance.

M1917A-1's are a sought after type of helmet by a small segment of U.S. helmet collectors. Since this helmet was likely a pre-war lid, it's value would be somewhat lower. However, it does have provenance(history with a name). The value, of course would have to be based on it's condition: Mint, Average or Relic. Again, pictures would be a tremendous help. No one could really give you any positive ID or idea of value without seeing it first.
