Welcome to the forum Turkey Jones.
Well the helmet has obviously been repainted and the interior is heavily rusted.
This does not appear to be either the US made WW1 1917 (Brodie) or the US Interwar/early WW2 1917a (Kelly). Nor does it appear to be the British made MKI, or Mk II (also call the Brodie).
A lot of signs. First the chin strap bales are all wrong. The helmet is rimless and there is no lug (nut?) to hold the liner/strap in on the top of the helmet.
Maybe civil defense? Maybe another country?
Where was it found?
You can go through this website and see if you can find a match...

Thank you very much
oh and all I know is that it was from an estate sale
Your welcome. I don't know what it is but I know what it is not LoL...We have many much more qualified "Brodie" guru's here. Maybe they will see this thread.
As far as where it was found. I meant what country. I assume the US since you asked if it was a US Doughboy helmet, but it might help others as this style of helmet was used/made by many countries.

Morning Turkey Jones,
I think it is a variant of the US Civil Defense helmet, WW2 period.
Its liner recalls that of the M1917-A2, but it is still a different helmet; this link can help.
