I bought this sad green painted shell the other day....for the liner more than anything, then I noticed the makers stamp and 18 batch number. Is this a ww1 shell? The chinstrap mounts are mk2 dated 1938, I seem to remember HS being a ww1 maker.

Yes, this is WWI shell. But if the rim is stainles and the shell has new securing lug, You have MkI*.
