All steel British helmets came in one size, it was the liners inside that came in different sizes.

I am planning to buy a replacement liner. The sellers web page says:
"Selecting a large size liner for a small size shell will not fit correctly."
    That what confused me.

The liner sizes were 6 1/4 up to 7 3/4 with between 8 & no rubber buffers, no rubber buffers were on the large size 7 3/4. There are normally a few liners that come up on ebay quite often, or PM me as I have some on my web site.
