When did slouch hats get grosgrain trim to the brim? Vintage WWI -II don't have that do they? Thanks.

I reckon in the 70's....again it just gives the RSM a reason to tell you to get a new one once that starts to fray

The trimmed brim goes waay back. They dropped it during WWII as a war economy measure and resumed after the war. Beware of fakes that have had the brim material sliced off to look like war economy hats.

    Oz.
