.
Gday all,
Just back from a trip away (Had the pack on and went seeking a bit of solitude for a while).
Nice examples Rene,A1 as always mate.
This is my only WW2 example.Umarked and a little tatty.
Did you blokes notice the example that sold on Ebay for $406.00 Au last night,Scary critters at that price.
Cheers to all
Dave
Nice one Dave, maaan do they really go for that price?!?
Here's my set all together
Great looking slouchys gents!
Unless it has an upside down pugaree and its flash is blue on top of white (AASC 8th Div captured - Singapore, Ambon, New Britain and Timor) I can understand the price. I can't find a ref of 36th Btl with 2nd AIF grey background because the 36th where citizen soldiers
What a horrendous looking slouch hat!! I saw this when it was on ebay and didn't give it a second look because It was way too far gone for my liking... But wow did someone get screwed!! That is the most money I have ever seen paid for a hat in such horrible condition. I guess the fact that all the good infantry hats have now dried up people will pay top dollar for one what ever the condition?
And Rene the 36th Battalion (Ike's Marines) actually did end up with a grey background to their patch as did most of the other militia units when they were absorbed into the AIF later in the war, They were then given the new designation of the 36th Australian Infantry battalion AIF
Some great slouch hats guys, I only have a very salty British made example.
Is there a list of known makers of these and can you date them that way?
Did FAYREFIELD Melbourne only make them post war or during WWII as I have seen one for sale claimed to be WWII by this maker? The only ones by this maker I can find all seem to be post war.
Regards,
Jerry
Whatever its just an opinion.
