Cheers Anderson, not by me as a kid, never played with it (well it was always in a pack) & I was always wearing a helmet!

Bloody hot and sweaty place. NZ SAS used the same boonie type in photo in Malaya.

I do like these bush-hats very much and it reminds me about a period,
55 years ago.

I did also wear a sort of bushhat, but it had another form and was
especially meant for the parade- and walking-out dress. It was the
common headdress for land forces (Landmacht), when serving at
the former Dutch colony Nieuw-Guinea (and also at Suriname).
The inner has a sweatband and a tag with Koninklijke Landmacht.

I did serve at Nieuw-Guinea from September 1961 until October 1962.
I still do own one. Left photo: walking-out dress; right photo with
my army device at the left side. Further shown my special (plastic)
arm-patch.
