Australian rabbit fur felt hat military ??

I bought this hat from a garage sale on the weekend for 50c AU .It looks as is very similar / the same as a slouch hat I have 2 slouch hats already although this one has no chin strap or place for one . and no clip to turn and hold the side up.it has a puggaree which is why I thought it may be military .any help would be great thanks if it is not military for the 50c I paid I thought it would make a good fishing hat regardless ... lol it is made by mountcastle

I know mountcastle make police hats (in Queensland anyways). Looks pretty similar to these Northern Territory indigenous police aids' hats. Judging from that police officer's hairstyle I'm guessing its 1980's. Could also be a sworn officer's hat prior to the introduction of the checked hat bands. All you need is a hat badge to complete it.
