The equivalent British cap would be dated pre or early WWII by the form of the peak. Perhaps the buttons might help enlighten its history.

I think your cap is pre war, probably 1950-1970 and was worn by soldiers and NCO's in my humble opinion.
Like you said,there was also an emblem/sign on front of it witch indicated the army unit you were in.
