    I would say it is wartime.

    I would agree with Ade, It has all the characteristics to be wartime and is a Gieves, which is always a good sign for a R/N cap. A quick research on the name would date it at 1943.

    The cover looks to be a modern vinyl top.

    I also agree with Ade and Oli, a good WWII period cap by Gieves, very nice.

    Thank you for the answers, and yes the cover is vinyl but quite worn out - I am not sure how does the original ww2 cover look like but this is quite good, not so new as it might sems to be.

    The cap could be worn with or without the cover so one is not needed if you are thinking something is missing. The cover is white cotton and looks very similar.
