Steve, this would make sense. It turns out that the person that owned this hat joind the USMC in 1943 so this may have been his first hat badge that simply was transfered from one of his caps to the next. By 1958 he had risen to the rank of Major.

I saw a badge on ebay that had the H-H/Imperial stamp which claimed was a 1926 badge but as I do not know the source of that information I do not hold it credible. I am far more inclined to belive the mid WWII as you state. The badge I posted the ebay link to, the other day, ended up selling for $170. That is good news, as we will be selling this cap and looks like it might be worth a few bucks.

Lol, a current USMC Officer may have wanted an original,
excellent quality badge for his modern cap.........!

Not really sure how "modern" the cap is, I'm still under the impression that it is mid 1950's to 1960's as it has the wicker construction in the band. I think this went to plastic some time in the 1950's

Lol, I meant the Ebay badge.

Hope someone joins in who might know for sure. I'm thinking the same era
as you mention - mid 50's to 60's. I really haven't been much help,
but it is a beautiful cap.........
    Regards,

    Steve.

as already mentioned in posts and based on photos and hat construction, I would agree that hat is 1950s-1960s era example with WW2 type badge, the new officer badge was adopted in 1962.

Here is an EGA reference that I keep on my Favorites listing.

It should keep you busy comparing for a little bit.
