I believe he also holds field marshal's rank, even though that rank is no longer used in the British Army. He is or was, given his age Colonel in Chief of a number of Army regiments, including the Grenadier Guards. Also , Captain Gemeral of the Royal Marines.
I'd need a LOT more unquestionable provenance to consider this cap.
My best friend DOES have a real FM cap, to FM Richard Hull, late 17th/21st Lancers and Chief of the Defence Staff.
