Royal Marines officer's dress cap

A dress visor cap for rank of major or Lt.Colonel. Cap badge is KC, but side buttons are QC; obviously a long serving officer.
My guess is vintage mid-50's to mid 60's.

Beautiful cap Bob. A nice find indeed. What material is the top and are the button gilt or staybright? If the buttons are QC and gilt then the cap is pre mid 1960s.


Here is my example dating from 1956 - 1963. The top is vinyl and the side buttons are gilt. The cap badge must have been changed by the owner to Staybright after that date.

Just to compare, here is an Other Ranks cap dating from the late 1950s, possibly 1956 as the top is vinyl but the side buttons are old stock KC.

The maker's label is the same as on your Officer's cap.

The top is ribbed vinyl, while the buttons are gilt, with a silver lion & crown. Can't say as I've ever seen a Silbertson officer's cap; the only other Silbertson cap I have is a Queen's Bay's other ranks, with a KC badge.

Thanks Bob and that's interesting. I would say it dates between 1956 and 1965. Even
nowadays the officer's KC gilt two part badges are not cheap, perhaps the officer took it off his previous cap instead of purchasing the new pattern.

I have only seen OR Silberston caps so far which is
why your example is very interesting and unusual. I will look into it more.
