    I believe these are referred to as a Balmoral , but I can't comment about the date . The badge was used in WWII , but it could be earlier . Never seen a white one before , maybe Pipe Band as they are a Highland unit .

    I'd contact the A&S Highlanders Museum for a definitive answer. Certainly an unusual item.

    Yep, a Balmoral bonnet with an Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders cap badge but it is not a military cap though the badge is a good pre-staybright item (anywhere from WW1 to 1960's without closer examination) and it is not unusual to see such a badge in civilian highland formal dress.

    A nice piece altogether for the collector of highland dress!

    Question; How many thistles can you see on an A&SH cap badge?

    Answer; Most peple will count ten. Wrong, the whole thing is a thistle so the answer is eleven!

    Thanks for the answer Mark , I thought a white Balmoral was strange . I'm more of a Glengarry guy myself .
