Default Some More US Caps III US Air Force

Hi All, Following on from the "More US Caps 1`United States Navy" and II "US Army", this is the start of III US Air Force. I hope that you find this interesting as the US Air Force seems to be a bit of a Cinderela. To start the thread, I have shown some female caps and if you have any to add, please feel free.
    Cheers Michael R

These US Air Force caps or hats are:

    1. Enlisted Ranks duty beret.
    2. Enlisted Ranks Dress "floppy" hat with white cover.
    3. Ditto.
    4. Junior Officer Ranks hat with pale tan cover and early miniature cap device.
    5. Ditto with white stiffened cover and later style large cap device.
    6. Ditto with high quality wire embroidered large type cap device.
    7. Senior and General Officer Ranks cap with "Darts and Farts" (Lightning and Clouds) and cap device all in high quality silver wire.

Of interest is the large metal cap eagle. On the male vizor cap the insignia is secured by a screw post and round nut whereas on the female version the badge is retained on the hat band by means of a pin and clutch. The miniature badge is retained by a pair of pins and clutches. The embroidered badges are embroidered directly into the band and not applied as an addition to the band.

These cap are, as stated, Enlisted ranks and are:

    1. Early blue/grey cap with standard pattern "old Silver" cap device.
    2. Current dark blue cap with visor outline embelishment, Officer pattern chin strap and Rhodium USAF Honour Guard cap device and buttons.
    3. As for #1 but earlier and with the crown streacher removed to give the cap a "crusher" look.
    4. USAF Musician's cap of similar pattern to #1 but with Officer pattern chin strap and the unique cap device for USAF bands. The badge is an early pattern finished "old Silver" effect.
    5. As for #1 but badged for wear by the Master Sergeant of the Air Force. The cap device is unique to the appointment and is once again an early pattern finished "old Silver" effect.

If, for any reason, you disagree with the descriptions which I have used, I would be most greatfull if you would please feel free to advise me of any errors etc.
    Regards Michael R

These visor caps all bear cap devices in antique sillver which, like the caps themselves are obsolete. The last cap in the lot is badged for wear by an officer of the US Civil Air Patrol (CAP) and has a blue rather than silver chin strap. Your comments and any items which you may wish to show on this thread are, as always, most welcome. likewise, corrections to any of my descriptions would also be appredciated. Cheers MR

Caps 1. to 4. inclusive all have 2 pairs or "Darts and Farts" in silver coloured wire embroidery to either side of the visors denoting both Lieutenant Colonel and Colonel ranks.

Caps 5. and 6. Also wear similar "Darts and Farts" but in sets of three on either side of the visors denoting General Officer ranks.

Caps 1. and 6. have stiffeners giving the caps a flatter more militeristic appearance where as the others have a more "floppy" appearance which tended to be a more popular style.
