Ive been helping my father clean his house out and i came across this cap in a box of my grandfathers items, but I'm not sure if this cap is ww2 or otherwise. Some images ive seen on google are quite similar to this cap, no markings on it indicate US Navy, but its definitely naval!

the tag says Size 7 1/2 and the number on the reverse side is DLAJ00-87-C-D440, there is also a 39 stamped on the inside, perhaps a date stamp?

I look forward to your helpful replies!

Lol ! I tried that somewhere and it also didn't work.

I'm not sure when the 'DLA' codes were established.
These caps are currently in use in the US Navy.

Still, cool cap just the same..........!

Issue caps always have the individuals serial number stenciled on the inside of the cap. That is done in boot camp. As well as the rest of your gear when you are issued upon arrival. Your dress blues are issued at about 6 weeks. Some mark them, some don't.
The cap shown was probably a commisary purchase.

If the DLA codes are anything like the old DSA codes the 87 in the code would be the year ie. 1987
