Thanks Jerry, yes you dated a pic for me I posted of dad and comrades which I thought may have been n.africa, one or two of the chaps were wearing GS caps so the pic would be sicily or Italy,
    cheers,
    John.

    That was it John.
    Regards,

    Jerry

Wartime (clearly) dated berets of just about any type are now desirable.
If you find one (not mothed) for £20 .... grab it !!! thats a good price.

went into town today. sadly I picked the only sunday for some time they were closed, said beret is still in window, the price or labels not visible so I will try to catch them on Monday when I finish work, on the way home I called in our local pub and got chatting to a couple who have bought a log cabin or static caravan on the edge of the village and he said he had some raf silk escape maps from his father who served in Burma during ww2 and also some 'blood chits' he wanted to sell , he will call round and show me them tomorrow so maybe not a wasted day after all !,
    cheers,
    John.

Here's another pic of dad that was quite damagedww2 beret ? by an ink spill and creasing, I have cleaned it up on the pc and I think it looks not bad now !. this time he is wearing the GS cap and a BD blouse, you can just make out the 78th battleaxe on the left. the background looks Italian but not sure if this is a real view or photographer's backdrop !.

Thanks Ade, more than likely a photographer's studio in Italy.

And I can tell that the image on the background is a landscape of Florence: no ink stamps of the photographer's studio?

No, just a plain back with a hand written message from dad to his mother !
