I was thinking French or is it civilian junk
no markings anywhere

Indo china type I think, civilian from the 60's or thereabouts.

If I was "playing" on words I would say it couldn't be Indo China from the 60s as Indochina stoped in 1954 to become Viet Nam (for a part) ; )

The Vietames pit helmet were diferent.

This one has some similarity with the US WW2 pit helmet. Wich was also reproduced in the 60s and 70s for civil purpose as you mentioned : )
