101st Airborne Patch - What Era.........?

hey if you looking to get rid of it i could use a better looking patch for my repro 42's and 43's that i use for reenacting just pm and we can chat about it

Sent it back only yesterday for my $45 refund.

I have recently searched Ebay for these ( there are plenty ) and saw this exact replica
with an opening price of $19.99 - and another with a 'buy it now' price of $130,
listed as an original because it does not glow. One has to study these
patches very carefully.........

im glad you got a refund on it ***** that people are trying to get over on other people with things like this iv had my fair share of fake things well collecting

Dang blast damit...i was confused about these patches before i read this thread...now i will have to leave the 101st patch out of my collection for the moment.....these 101st origional patches have doubled in price over the last 12 months...

Hi Darren. I think that the majority of 'original' 101st ABN patches seen are post war
likely from the 1950's-60's, as mentioned on the 'Eagle patch corner' site,
and prices do seem to have gone crazy, even if this is so.

When I have the time, I'll post a couple more I picked up recently. What usually
starts out as a single representative piece, turns into a half dozen as I try
to find a good one..........

Finally ! - Below are three 101st Airborne patches of the 'cut edge' type.
Two have tan base material, and one has a blue base.........

Except for the first one with the snow back, I'm thinking they are
post-war 1950's-60's types.........

A tad late but will chime in.

The one with the solid eye (amoeba eye) is WWII era

The eagle with out the tab is the hardest to explain , It is post WWII if you go by Mark Bando site , however this has all the traits of a WWII manufactured patch , if I were to date this it would of been used 1946-48 period when the tabs were rescinded , the unit was deactivated then reactivated as a training division , minus the Airborne tab. Manufacturing techniques changed little from 1944-50 period.

The third eagle is a 1960's pre merrowed edge (1966) manufactured patch.

Compared to others from WWII, I find the 101st
are the hardest to figure out.........!

Hi Steve

US WWII Airborne SSI is always open to conjecture especially 1945-55 period. The same would be of any allied nation during that time period.
Manufacturing style didn't change that much during that period but the 101st , as with all tabbed units, had them rescinded 1946-48, and was deactivated and reactivated as a training division from 1947-53 period. While 101 patches were made by the same manufacturer from WWII, certain construction style and variations of the design were created during this time period (47-53) causing confusion, so its always best to post to get an ID.
