"In all my years as a soldier, I have never seen men fight so hard." - SS Obergruppenfuhrer Wilhelm Bittrich - Arnhem
When it comes to singing, the Legion. Many of their marching songs are modified versions of Waffen-SS/Wehrmacht standards such as the 'Panzerlied', and if you check out youtube there's some good examples. As for the Para's, well, I can confirm from knowing several that it's not really their strongpoint, alongside dress sense that consists of stone washed jeans, a maroon sweat shirt and dessie boots.
'I do not think we can hope for any better thing now.
We shall stick it out to the end, but we are getting weaker of course, and the end cannot be far.
It seems a pity, but I do not think I can write more. R. SCOTT.
Last Entry - For God's sake look after our people.'
In memory of Capt. Robert Falcon Scott, Edward Wilson, Henry Bowers, Lawrence Oates and Edgar Evans. South Pole Expedition, 30th March 1912.
I like this answer to a FAQ question;
5.Is discipline in the Foreign Legion much harder than in the regular French Army ?
No. The discipline enforced in the French foreign Legion is exactly the same as that of the French Regular Army. However, our traditions of an elite force allow us to enforce this discipline with a greater rigour. We have a tradition of excellence and selection criteria, which allow as to surpass the Regular Army.
So the answer is really YES!
