U.S. M42 paratrooper Jump Jacket without insignias
Hi,
I have some questions about the US M42 paratrooper Jump Jacket. I've seem many original WWII jump jackets without insignias on the left shouder (pictures from collectors posted in forums of militaria).
I would like to know if, even the US M42 jump jackets without insignias, were used on combat missions. What kind of units used it without patches? Is there any source of information avaiable on the web where i can find the answer?
I would also like to know if there was a specific type of the "screamin' eagle" patch (Mark Bando's classification) used on D-Day by the 101st airborne division, or any kind of patch could be sewn on the jackets?
Thanks

Re: U.S. M42 paratrooper Jump Jacket without insignias
Airborne regiments would have covered their shoulder patches with
pieces of cloth sewn over them when in transit so they would
not give away their identity to soldiers and civilians alike.
To find a jacket that does not have any insignia could mean
it was never issued, or the insignia has been removed.....
There are many '101st PIR' web sites where you can find
all kinds of info about patches, etc.
