There probably wouldn't be any bids if it was in the correct section Still a nice BD, never seen the 'sold out of service' stamp before...
also, by my knowledge the 'C' on the inspection mark puts it to 1952 so it could have laid around for a while before it was issued or not.
Hmm, £45.78 final price.

Maybe it was me droning on about them in a thread? Yes they were applied to anything that was sold off from Army stores. You see them on guns and bayonets a lot, and I have them on a pair of binoculars I think. Could be a subject for a thread I suppose?

Re: 49 pattern BD with 1944 fake date stamp
Ive seen the Sold out of service stamp on O8 webbing items but never BD before so it's good to see.
The date code of C is indeed 1952.
I'll go with fake. The date ink is completely different to any of the other stamps. Real date stamps seem to have been in purple ink more often than not. A neatly removed label is another big give-away. As is the size, 11. There are hundreds of 11 and 13 around at the moment.
Really annoys me the amount of dealers at fairs are selling post war kit with convenient black splodges over the date. 19splodge is very, very common indeed and is a hateful practice. Nothing less than Historical vandalism and they should be ashamed of their greedy selves.
Excuse the rant!
