Aussie Made Major's BD blouse: 17 WDW?

A recent purchase and a minor mistery to me. This 1942 dated Aussie made BD blouse is badged to a Major of the British (possibly) Army, awarded with the Military Cross and recipient of the King George VI Coronation medal. On the cloth label typical of Aussie made items apart form the size ink stamp you can find W.D.W handwritten. Possibly the major's initials, just a pity he would not write his full second name!
