Hi All,
Here is a great coat I have had for a fair while but have never posted.
It is a 1944 dated British greatcoat that belonged to John Edward Skipworth, a West Australian that was a member of the 2/28th Battalion.
27th July 1942 he was captured by the Germans on "Ruin Ridge" during the first battle of El Alamein. He then spent the rest of the war in numerous different German POW camps.
26th April 1945 he was returned to the UK as a returned P.W. I believe it was at this time or soon after his liberation that he was issued this British pattern greatcoat and probably applied insignia in the UK for his return to Australia.
Thanks
Jason
