Early Air Corps jacket!

IT is the standard early 4 pocket issue. It appears to have been reissued twice.
The First Airforce was a state side outfit.
During the war its primary duty was to defend the eastern seaboard till 1943, then relieved and became a traing outfit that turned out 350 combat units that comprised over 7,000 pilots and 80,000 enlisted men. The shoulder patch was approved January 18 1944.

on the right side were it says 39 R almost next to it it looks like a chemical insignia. - Nick K

'39 S' is all I can see. Whatever else is scribbled out.........

It is just an ink spot.

Sorry I meant 39 S and you can see it kind of inter twines with the S. - Nick K

I can see the red/orange markings you mentioned. Perhaps this used to be
a Chemical Corp jacket, and was turned into AAF at somepoint.

Still a nice one anyway - I've been a big fan of USAAF
flight gear and insignia from way back.........!
