we-ell, not really. they were (very occasionally) a combat uniform, but there main use, and original intention, was as overalls, or working dress.

Agree with Unionjack, originally intended to be worn over the wool BD as working dress, a bit like the German HBT work uniform, but they were used as field tunics in hot climates and also used by the Homeguard.
