Hi Steve - Canadian painted BD buttons and the early British brass type. I don't recall ever seeing the British ones painted.

I can remember when I was younger my grandmother had a huge tin of buttons. I used to spend hours picking out the military ones, i can remember she had a lot of the early BattleDress buttons, along with a few regimental ones. But when i think about it I'm not actually sure what happened to the tin which is annoying.......
The blouse shown at the beginning of this thread is not a P37 blouse. The original pattern blouses did not have drill lining around the collar, in addition to other differences (pocket placement, etc).
The jacket shown is a 1940 pattern
