    Default USNR WAVES uniform group

Hiya, Ade asked me to post my named WAVES group as some WAVES items were shown on the forum last week.

Her name was Lucille Dasbach, USNR 7038050. She joined up in 1942 and was sent to Cedar Falls, Iowa for initial training. Then sent to NAS (Naval Air Station) Lake Hurst, New Jersy, then NAS Pensacola, Florida back to Lake Hurst, NJ then to NAS Glenview, Illinois, then to Naval base at San Diego, California, then NAS Millington,(Memphis) Tennessee, and then to Kingsville then Naval Station Corpus Christie, Texas. In the meantime she had married a Navy man by the name of Morgan. She got pregenant and was discharged in 1954 after almost 12 years service.

I have her cap, tunic, & skirt which I will show here.

I also have her Navy blue shirt and black tie and two light blue ties, but these are in very poor condition.

As you can see, she was a Parachute Rigger.

Note that the name in the cap on the label is a different girl: Jean L Carling. But this came with the other items direct from the Veteran. Maybe she lost her cap and acquired someone elses?

Here is a nice link about uniform regs:

Uniform Regulations, Women's Reserve, US Naval Reserve, 1943

    Cheers, Lez.

    Hi Lez,
Did gilt buttons only for officer and late in the war Chief Petty officer were allowed to wear gilt buttons?

Brass buttons were standard on Navy Waves dress blue jackets.
It is also interesting to note that she served 8 years. Sailors are such silver tounged devils.

I have never seen a pewter button on any 20th century American dress uniform.

It is dull silver which looks like pewter could be down to age. I can get you a picture.

I can assure you it is not black plastic because I have the same pewter ones like that, the back of the buttons are bright silver and not toned like the front.
