This afternoon, a package arrived from Andy in Wales. Inside were these excellent examples of an Atlantic Star, France and Germany Star, War Medal, and Defense Medal... AND a nice issue box! Unfortunately, these medals are quite rare here in the U.S. (at least they are in my neck of the woods...) and when you can find them, dealers tend to overcharge for the War and Defense Medals based on their silver content!

These medals will be a nice addition to my modest collection.

    THANKS, ANDY!

    Hi

    Nice group, thanks for posting.

By the way the Defense Medals and War Medals issued to Great Britain's armed forces were in fact made of cupro-nickel.

    Thanks

Interesting, Cameron. Are you sure? Everything I look at says the Defense and War Medals were made out of .800 fine silver?

    Hi

I think it was only the members Canadian armed forces who received the silver variation of the medals.

No worries! Perhaps the misconception that all versions are made of silver has driven up dealer prices here?
