A little too rich for my blood! I've been told there is a Medal of Honor floating around in my wife's family. I'm still trying to get my hands on it and get some pics. I hope it's true!

There was another one sold last week which went for more than this, he survived and spent the war in captivity and got his at buck house in 1919. I think it sold for about £260000, though I cant find the link at this time.

180 Grand for a VC must be the starting price , they go for a lot more than that , another one for the Ashcroft collection !!

I think it is a real shame that something like a VC should be sold, I understand that family members / descendents sometimes need money for whatever reason but something like a VC, what did the bloke go through to get one of those? I'm sure a lot more than the person selling it. They're selling their families heritage in my opinion, I hope it's worth it.

I just noticed that the one I linked to was mentioned in the first link, Doh!

It did not go to the Ashcroft collection, or so the notice I saw on it selling said.

Found a link on the sale, but not the one I read the other day.

I agree there should be some form of caveat whereby when or if family lines dies out, the medal should be returned to the crown and put on permanant display in a dedicated museum.

As we don't have that, I suppose Lord Ashcroft is the next best thing and at least the collection can be seen in the IWM.
