Hi Mel,
Are you sure its an Aussie Medal.
I just had a look on the Nominal roll and the service number matches no, A Jones ?
Mick
Hi Mick
I know, I did the same search and got nothing, thats why I'm thinking its a dodgey one. Here is the medal
Hmmm strange,it certainly looks period
Soldier may have served post war as well in the new regular army in which case the records are not on the WW2 site.
Thanks Lithgow, that makes a bit more sense
The mystery continues im afraid,Mel.
If A.Jones had enlisted prior to 3rd September 1945 he would have recieved the 1939-1945 Australian Service Medal and certainly be on the Nominal roll.
However if he enlisted after 3rd September 1945 he would have recieved the 1945-1975 Australian Service Medal, which was awarded for service after 3rd September 1945.
I think if he continued service after WW2 he would have recieved both but be mentioned on the WW2 nominal roll.
What do you think Lithgow ? (im not arguing but asking)
Cheers Mick
The Regular army info is sealed-my Great uncle was WW2 2AIF but went on to enlist in the new army-I have his medals and his info doesn't appear on the nominal roll.
