As for the medal bars.. They are:
Left medal bar:
- Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal
- Vietnam Service Medal (With three bronze stars for participation in three campaigns)
- Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal
Right medal bar:
- Navy Good Conduct Medal (with three bronze stars for three subsequent enlistments)
- Navy Expeditionary Medal
- National Defense Service Medal

The metal badge with the letters "USN" over a fouled anchor is a rank insignia for a Chief Petty Officer.
