Seemed like the thing to do at the time, was better then being a leg.
To be honest, i had 3 uncles that was Airborne, several other family members was airborne also, and i wanted to into the Army since i was 10 years old, so at age 17 i went into the Army, with my Mothers signature, since i was only 17.

Brian, God Bless you and your family ! It appears you have carried on a tradition in your family and now it's up to other family members to keep this thing going for generations.
I have had a couple of family members myself in the airborne. Sadly i chose another path.
