Hello all, just picked this Palestine Service Medal named to PTE. M. LIJANE. APC, service number AS17869. I'm going to send for his records in the morning. I assume APC stands for Army Pay Corps.

An interesting name. No trace of the name on UK Ancestry. A Google search seems to suggest a South African connection.

Also found this - a similar service number on a GSM for an African man.

I think APC is African Pioneer Corps.

    Good luck with your research.

    Hi,

he was a member of the African Pioneer Corps - Royal Army Pay Corps would be inscribed "RAPC" on a medal. Anyway, here's the medal roll confirming his entitlement to the GSM.

Wow Richie ! Thank you very much for the clarification. It makes sence now why the R was missing from Royal Army Pay Corps. When I see a british medal I don't think South Africa right away even though Cape Town was a British colony.

Sorry tom, your post didn't load till I submitted my last response. Thank you for your clarification and medal roll! If you don't mind me asking, how did you get that without paying a researcher?

    Hi,

my pleasure. I have an annual subscription to ancestry.com and do plenty of research myself, so knew where to look! I'm always happy to do 'look ups'.

    Cheers, Tom

Thank-you, although Google and the Internet has to take the real credit.

Indeed, but you still spent the time having a look and though maybe it came up quick and was not a lot of work or time, you had a go and was willing to help a member out. Still a good deed in my book.
