I forgot to add...concerning the number Heart in the case,, this is a product of the Robbins company. They produced Hearts in the number range 400,000 - 600,000. Their ribbons were a deeper purple than the others and was what I believe is referred to as watered silk. The ribbons on these are very soft to the touch compared to other variants - a very nice example indeed.

That is a very nice cased Purple Heart. I am by no means an expert, but I can generally find cased Purple Hearts for much cheaper than $80 (although most aren't numbered).

As a side note. This is my most recent Purple Heart purchase. From the estate of Elmer Hawn. He served as a medic in the 83rd Division and was from Cincinnati, Ohio. He was WIA on D-Day +29 and +35. A "picker" found this at a sale and paid $3.25 for the whole grouping last year. That's right, I said $3.25! I paid significantly more, but it was still under $200. Here are some of the pics. Gotta love the laminated discharge document!
    Thanks for looking,

    Great find !

Looks like the discharge certificate was folded up and carried in his
    wallet for several decades !

Believe it or not, but some people throw these kinds of awards
and documents into the trash ! !
I've heard of a couple of cases of this, where medals were "rescued".
They really don't know what they have or what it meant to earn them
and the sacrifices involved. They don't think things like this are worth
anything or that anyone would be interested..............

    Regards,

    Steve.
