    I've always associated this type of pin with sweetheart
    items. 'Normal' size for rank insignia is 1" or slightly
    larger. If these are for Colonels, I'd like to see pics
    of these large eagles in wear.........

    Way to big to be insignia, IMO. Most are like the type shown
    below, and I have only seen differences by maker, where
    patterns vary slightly but the general appearance
    remains the same. Though the ones I show here
    are WWII examples, size will not deviate much.


    I'll also dig for pics of older insignia.

    Seems like the Pin is extremely delicate looking too, for a military uniform insignia.

    the pin could of been replaced , but it does has the "loops" for strength , starting to think maybe for a cap/hat due to the large size
