Not exactly sure, but they likely wore the same uniform and headwear,
the Merchant Marine insignia being the only difference.........

I have looked up a few period photos and it would appear that the headwear and or uniforms are very close and or are naval issue.

I've picked up most of the US Navy 'overseas cap' versions for between
$12-$20, but I also see them for sale occasionally at $30-$35.

Merchant Marine types should go for about the same.
