Liking this one also - a nice clean set. Sometimes one
is lucky enough to find the little piece of ribbon
included as well.........
Regards,
Steve.
That little piece of ribbon was a draw to this one for me.
Now that I have a number of US medals in case, some with wood, some in the metal, I think I like these medal cases better (both of these today are in metal cases). They seem to hold up better and are less prone to warping over the years, and their coverings don't separate like wooden. I think the wood are more collectible, but for practical use and appearance, seems like you can't beat the metal ones IMO.
I have several WWII cases and I've noticed the rayon
insert in the lid will dry out and become unstuck.
I've glued 2 or 3 back in place - this happens
with the modern blue cases too.........
Regards,
Steve.
I haven't had that problem yet, thankfully. But probably will over time. I will be recieving my first modern medal case shortly. A moderator over at usmilitariaforum is sending me a case, lapel pin, and ribbon bar for a current issue purple heart. My brother was injured in Iraqi Freedom and recieved a purple heart, but is missing most of the set.
They rushed the medal in so a general that was in town could pin it on him, at the generals request. He never received the case and accessories, so I've been hunting for them to complete my brothers set. I don't have enough posts to make a wanted post over there, so I was asking for special approval to, and tarbridge offered to send me a set free of charge. The community we have on forums like this never ceases to astonish me. I even offered to pay him for it, but he refused. We have such great people in this hobby. And I'm excited to be able to present my brother with the rest of his purple heart set.
I might just try to get some photos to post here of it. It's not every day we get to post the medals of close family.
Amazing ! Love to see those photos.........!
Regards,
Steve.
Another nice medal and terrific photos! Your photography work is amazing.
Thanks aurelius180! I've found the photos on this site so useful to me in my hunt for items, I make sure to try to offer the most detailed shots I can of what I post in case someone like me comes across my posts in the forum archive one day. The owners of the forum have seen fit to allow us to upload nice sized images, so why not take advantage of it?
Excellent cased set!!!!! Congrat's.
