It's an British or Canadian rank badge for a Major . Here is a photo of one used on a RCA tunic .
Cheers
Also it's a Kings Crown so WWII era
Looks like a Majors rank badge.
You also get A Bullion version, as mentioned part of rank insignia.

Whatever its just an opinion.
Hi, The badge is as stated, a shoulder rank insignia worn by field officers in the ranks of Major, Lt Colonel (surmounting a single star/pip), Colonel (2 x pips) and Brigadier (3 pips in triangular formation). Also worn by Lt Generals (surmounting a crossed scimiter device and baton), Generals (over pip and over Device) and by Field Marshals over Crossed batons within a wreath. Usually found in one of three patterns:
1. Victoria crown pre 1902.
2. Imperial (King's) crown worn during the reigns of Edward VII, George V, Edward VIII [abdicated] and George VI.
3. Edward crown (Queen's) Elizabeth II from 1953 to date.
Also found in silver metal and embriodered/woven silk and wire versions.
Hope this helps. There are litteraly hundreds of variations of all three of these crowns worn by both Officers and Enlisted peronel which can in themselves make a colourful and interesting collection!!
Cheers MR
Also comes in plastic.

The crown device was/is also worn by Commonwealth Warrant Officers on the sleeve and took a number of forms and sizes, with or without the red backing.
The images didn't post in order, the second set are WW2 era Australian Majors rank insignia the others are WO. The bottom image is a smaller example.
Cheers
Dave
Hi Dave, Yup, as did most, if not all of the Imperial Forces in both World Wars. Anyway, I thought you Ausies, down under, wore your crowns upside down??? LOL
