My grandad collects patches and got this one and we can't find out any information on it. I found one picture of the patch online, however the description repeated back what was on the patch. They thought it was a WWII patch.

This patch is definitely ww2 or right after, I don't think it is for foreign legion. Possibly some kind of flight school or aviation training academy during the war

Just curious, but what about this patch makes this definitely ww2 or right after?

This style patch was not made in the 60s or later. It was only made during the war and in the late 40s following the war

I know a little about American patches but do not recognize this one.
Take it over to US Military Forum.com and post it in the patches forum. They might to be able to help you.

By style I mean they really did not make air force patches like this in the 50s at least the ones I have seen

Steve's right that site he mentions will tell you all about it when it was made and who there are a lot of experts on there that can tell you. I had a 101 patch given to me by a vet who served in the war and into the 1950's in a other unit put it on a forum and all the so called patch experts screamed "post war" come to find out it was ww2 since I figured it was as he was in wartime. Those guys gave a good explaniation of to why and how. timothy
