Hello, can anyone tell me where the official position British Sgt stripes were to be placed on the sleeve of a 22 ptn tunic.

I know more or less, but is there a measurement from the top of the sleeve.

    Thanks.

Hi Bazden, firstly there is no such tunic as a 22 pattern, it was a 1902 SD jacket that had ,i believe 5 modifications, one being in 1922, the normal placing of Sgt stripes were midway between the shoulder epaulette seam and the elbow, but i dont think this was strictly adhered to in exact measurements all the time

Thank you and I of course should have said service dress (SD) jacket rather than tunic and certainly not have said 22 ptn, a nasty habit I have developed .

Yes there is a measurement. The official British Army instructions were: the lower point of the one-bar chevron was placed 9-in from the top of the sleeve, of the two-bar chevron 9 1/2-in and of the three-bar chevron 10 1/2-in from the top of the sleeve. So in the case of the serjeant's stripes, the point of the lowest chevron would be 10 1/2 inches from the top of the sleeve. In the inter-war period I would imagine this was very strictly adhered to.. proper soldiering and all that.
