French 'assassin' pin ?

Is this french fascist/petainist? Zouave? Foreign legion? Dsomeone told me it was an assassins' pin - whatever that does or doesn't mean. It looks to me wwii or prewar in construction. Anyhow, thanks!

2nd Regiment of (French) Zouaves...worn from 1852-1962....

Thanks glenn - yes i learned the 2nd zouaves prevailed over the austrians in the crimean war battle of magenta and that this pin commemorates the victory. Anyone know when it was made? Cheers, dw
