3" wings were for the dress uniform, and 2" wings for duty or "shirt" wear.
2" were probably worn in combat more often than the 3" types. The 2" and smaller
ones were also sent home to moms, wives and "sweethearts".

Sometimes the airmen made and wore these bracelets themselves........
Others too were made by jewelers.

Also, judging by the photos, the wing pictured seems to be a British
theatre made US wing, which are quite rare !
