OK JERRY got the answer for you ,, senior ncos caps were issude and had the ordinary or motto , officers caps were purchased , from
HERBERT JOHNNSONS london and had brass buttons and a silver NORMALL SIZE motto , so it seems i was incorrect about the motto size
so if your cap is a herbert johnson , then it is an officers cap ,, this info came from Ron Cross rsm, ret, my old rsm

Thanks Ian. My cap is a Moss Bros, so not sure what that means.

From a design standpoint, the lances should be spread further
apart. First, to make the entire profile of the badge have less
height - so a better fit on caps, and second, to make it
appear that the pennants are behind the skull,
looking less like ears or horns.

Perhaps there is a protocol and the angle of the lances
    cannot be changed.........?
    Regards,

    Steve.
