Hello, I apologize on advance if I posted in the wrong forum, this patch is about 2x2 inches and looks purple and either green or black checkered and the griffin is yellow, anybody know what this is from?

I can only tell you that it is not German.
It's British , "North Highland" District formation patch . Used after the war as well , so I'm not sure about date .
Interesting, with the colours reversed the patch is that of the 51st Infantry Brigade and Headquarters Scotland
Other Scottish units use the Lion rampant on their patches!....
Here's what it says in my book
"All Scottish districts belonged to the Scottish Command ;only two districts remained after the War , the Highland District , now wearing the formation sign of the former North Highland District , and the Lowland District , with the sign of the former West Scotland District."
In the post war section .
Cheers
