I can only post this one, I don't know a lot about these and I'm guessing it's something similar? WW1 perhaps?

It's a WW1 Returned from Active Service badge Rene.

They were the predecessors to the second war version I posted earlier.

A rather poor conditioned painted over set of 23rd "Hindmarsh Regiment" collars

    Post your WW2 Australian Insignia.

I normally would not touch items like this but the paint is on there thick and I am tempted to clean this pair up and take them back to brass.

Hi ` I have to say what a brilliant site and this string is fantastic.

I am a fanatical MD fossicker that resides on the Atherton Tablelands, in FNQ ~ and anyone with any knowledge what took place here in the years from 1942 to 1946 ~

(I hope I am not out of order by posting this as a question rather than an exhibit.)
I have recently scored a several intriguing items on what I believe was the camp site of the 2/ 7th Cavalry Batt.

Now the debate is whether the Kangaroo is actually an official badge or a bit of trench work (?? ) (The star which is copper and found very close to the kangaroo is pretty obviously trench art work.)

    The little Kangaroo is brass.

Additionally the block item is definitely a badge mount with clips on the rear but maybe a tad vague as to what it may have been, also found within < 100mm > of the other two items !

Any advice on the items appreciated ~ Thanks ~ SS

As a matter of further interest on site, a Victorian MD member (on my preferred metal detecting site ; Kimbucktwo.com) on the Mornington Peninsula this week found a 1901/2 first edition Rising Sun.. Woowwha !
    G'day AT P Sweep
    Cheers for the kind words.
Good to have you with us on the thread mate and welcome to the forum.

    All the best
    Dave

Yeah It is a shame they painted over that nice gilded brass but everything had to be subdued per wartime orders I have seen lots of badges like this and they are always in similar condition I guess the paint didn't stick to the gilded finish so well... At least you know they are actual WW2 issue and not worn by someone in 1930.

They are still nice badges though, have you got the hat badge for them yet?

Another Staff SGT Major rank insignia.
This one is slightly different than the earlier example I posted.
The leaves on wreath are not quite the same. Maybe two different makers ?

    Post your WW2 Australian Insignia.

Yeah The paint is super thick on one but I see your point re subduing. You have convinced me not to touch them mate.
No I only have the collars at the moment but that's OK, one will turn up for sure as I have plenty of time.
