    The vast majority look fine.

But I would be a little wary of the Tyneside Irish. Maker marks on the slider fitting (which slots into the cap) are found with maker marks on fakes more often than on originals. That is not to dismiss maker marks, just something to consider.

The other I would get checked out more is the WW1 Carnavonshire Volunteer Regiment badge. I imagine this is a scarce badge? Being a Welsh Regt Jerry B may know more?

The REME badge is the new version issued post war, around 1947/1948.

    Cheers, Ade.

I agree with Ade, volunteer badges are always worth expert apraisal as re-strikes abound. I am also not sure about the ACC badge I think you should have an experienced collector look at it "in hand". The all brass construction is correct for WWII (post war the central brazier became a white metal applique piece) but the strike detail does not look as sharp as I would like and the metal is a little bright for a wartime badge. This could of course be the picture and it could be a perfectly good badge which is why I suggest having it checked "in hand".

I have attached pics of a post war bi-metal type to show what I mean about detail. Typically the strikes did not suddenly get better after the war and this is an important recognition factor albeit not definative alone.

    I hope this helps

    Regards

"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. A man who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing he cares more about than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature with no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself."

    Hi Mark,

I think perhaps you're correct in your observations, I suspect about this badge too because, like you can see in pictures, it looks much more new in hands than others in this group.

    Best Regards,

    Ricardo

You're correct, J.R. Gaunt did some fine USAAF wings during WWII too.

But the question here is: Is it a periode done badge or a re-strike with a fake J.R. Gaunt MM?

    Hi Didier,

I think you're talking about the MM size, it's 15mm.
