Welch cap badges

Article about: Arrived today and picked up for 99p from ebay, Welsh regiment OR's white metal collar converted to a sweetheart brooch, though sadly it has since lost its pin.

Great looking collection Jerry, Here is my modest contribution to the Welsh. Collar dogs mainly and 1 shoulder title

Very nice Jack and the matching pairs of Welsh collars are good to see. Are the OSD bronze set maker marked? The set I have are marked to Firmin, London.

The small fusiliers collar you have shown as an OR's for the RWF is for the Northumberland fusiliers with St George slaying the dragon. Obviously, no Welch regiment would have anyone shown killing the dragon!

I picked up a pair of cap badges, one the pre 1920 S spelling version and one the post 1920 C spelling version. Both are OSD and are theater made cast versions.

Default Royal Welch Fusiliers Officers bronze SD cap badge

I thought it made more sense to add this one here for comparison than to post it separately.

These are very difficult to date precisely without good provenance and even more difficult in photographs but this is obviously post 1920 because of the 'C' spelling of Welch.

Possibly the "East - West" rather than "North-South" orientation of the blades might be date indicative but I think that is more likely to be a manufacturing variation.

As was mentioned further up the thread the officers bronze badges might be deemed less attractive than the ORs Bi-Metal bright and shiny types but personally I like the misunderstood "understated style" muted but classy appearance of these

    Regards

    Mark
