Igniting another old thread. Here’s my example of 1942, war salvage. The canteen is a bit rusty but no holes and maker marked to S M Company, 1942. The plastic lid is the type with sides fluted top to bottom.

I'm still on the hunt for an Ethocel example from 1943, although I don't think these were necessarily ever used in theatres of operations.
