    Nice find i think this is the model that can also be folded into a hat , you sometimes see the Royal marines wearing them

    They are often called cap comforters and could be worn either on their own or under a steel helmet for comfort and to prevent heat loss. This is my example: https://hatchfive.wordpress.com/2015...cap-comforter/

    Thanks - here is some info i found:

    For those who do not know, it is a British "cap comforter" as worn by Commandos and LRDG etc. It looks like a woollen sandbag, sewn shut at birth ends. Push half inside itself. Fold closed end over about 3 inches to one side. Fold up open end and tuck that folded over sealed end in on one side.
